Recipes for Quick Sardines Snacks



Sardines are a small type of oily fish but taste delicious. It seems the name ‘Sardines’ comes from the island of Sardinia, around which sardines were once abundant.

Sardine Sandwich Spread

You will need 1 tin of sardines, 2 scrambled eggs, a dash of lemon juice, a teaspoon mayonnaise, and 4 slices buttered bread. Flake the sardines; add the mayonnaise and lemon juice a fold in the scrambled eggs. Spread it over the slices of bread.

Sardine Salad

You will need 1 tin of sardines, 50 ml cottage cheese, 25 ml chopped parsley, 10 ml grated onion and a pinch of garlic salt. Mix together and serve on a bed of washed lettuce.

Tasty Sandwich

You will need 1 tin of sardines, 5 ml grated onion, 10 ml tomato sauce, 10 ml mayonnaise, 10 ml fruit chutney and salt and pepper to taste. Mix together and use for sandwiches.

Spicy Sardines

You will need 1 Tbsp. butter, a pinch of curry powder and mustard powder, a dash of Worcestershire sauce, 1 tin sardines, a handful crisp bread crumbs and 4 slices toast. Cream the butter and add the curry and mustard powder and a few drops of Worcestershire sauce. Spread over the 4 slices of bread. Arrange the drained sardines on toast sprinkle the crisp breadcrumbs over and heat under oven grill.

Savoury Sardine Filling

You will need 1 tin of sardines, a squeeze of lemon juice, and a pinch of cayenne pepper, a pinch of salt and chopped whites of 2 hard-boiled eggs. Mash the sardines, add the lemon juice, cayenne pepper and salt and mix with the chopped whites. Serve on toast.
